caution this is sparta
Everything has been wonderful so far. I had intended to update facebook periodically to keep at least a little bit in touch, but alas. The resort doesn't have free wi-fi, and even if I did pay for it (i'm on the pc in the lobby right now) facebook is blocked from all of their servers!!!!!

Oh, and damn ATT I haven't had service since we left Alabama. I get a bar every now and then (I even tried the whole turn it off then turn it back on... no luck) so I have to use Nick's phone for everything, and even if anyone WANTED to contact me, they pretty much can't :(

Anyway, on the way to washington, catch you guys later.

Things I have learned this week:

-When a single person asks you how your valenines day was, all they want to hear is "good" you go into any more details about how wonderful your S.O. is and how well they did, and how it was they best day ever, they turn on you and get angry that you're happy and they aren't.

-Being young is not cool, and I'm not allowed to talk about it.

-Rental cars are fun.

-Don't ever make plans for any large amounts of money coming in. Especially refund checks. Something will always happen.

-Car repairs suck.

-Terry Pratchett is awesome.

A list

  • I'm in the mood for a good list, so here is one for you.
  • I'm going to pick up my dress tomorrow in Tupelo
    • I'm going in a rented car from Enterprise
      • I don't have to pay for said rental.
        • I just found out through going through my mom's records that I can do this.
          • My mom is totally on the ball! /sarcasm
  • My car's radiator, general cooling system esploded Tuesday.
  • Original estimation for fixing said problem is 1300 fucking dollars.
    • Mechanics are full of shit.
  • I'm going to call around to a couple of different mechanics, and you know.. compare.
  • I called my mom and asked if our insurance would cover these problems, her exact words. "I have no idea, look it up."
    • My mom is SO on the ball.
  • Found out we have FULL coverage (way to go mom) and not only do I only have to pay only 500$ no matter what the actual cost (assuming they approve the claim) but I can RENT A CAR WHILE IT"S IN THE SHOP!
    • The limit on this is 25$ a day up to 750$. I can keep it for, by my estimates, a freaking month.
      • BY THE WAY MOM! WAY TO FUCKING GO!
  • If I didn't have Nick to say : You should find out if you guys have this this and this, and my current school project making me get on the ball about making a married life budget, I wouldn't even have known geico DID any of this.
  • I want a motorcycle.
  • I can AFFORD a motorcycle.
  • I can even afford said motorcycle insurance.
  • I REALLY WANT A MOTORCYCLE.
    • I'm thinking a birthday present for me from me and nick for my 23'd. I'll have a "real job" then and get better insurance rates because I'm married.
  • I should have gone to bed two hours ago.
  • SHIT HAPPENS IS MY LIFE MOTTO!
    • My mom is totally on the ball, and totally keeps up with her shit.

O NOES!
All hell done just broke loose.

In child welfare we have.. erm, what I loosely will call Class "discussions". These "discussions" are usually half the class talking at once, casually, within groups and such, with the teacher etc.

Today however, our "discussion" has gone done exploded! We apparently hit a touchy subject when the idea of spanking came up. For the last thirty or so minutes, people have been yelling at each other, insulting each other, getting feeling hurt, interrupting our teacher, just going generally bat shit crazy. I have been keeping my mouth shut generally, after I attempted to explain the idea of positive / negative reinforcment, and positive / negative punishment. I got yelled at half way through, and havent' spoken up since.

ETA: I'm noticing a definite line being drawn through the class room.

Peter - not much gayer than this
As some of you may already know, if you get messages about icon additions in your inbox like me, I have uploaded a whole shite ton of new icons. In an effort to become more active in the lj community in general, I am going to use every one of them, at least once a day. Even if it's just a short, OMG I HATE THIS CLASS entry.

Life is going to be crazy this semester. Class/ lab work from 9 am till four, leave straight form here to work Tuesday Thursday and Friday, and Wednesdays I have class from 10 am to 8 pm. I like most of my classes, with one exception. Marriage and Family is a joke. I took a test this morning, after already missing three classes. The test took me ten minutes, and I missed two questions on the whole damn thing.

I have bought my wedding dress and it is beautiful. Ivory colored, empire waist, which surprisingly did wonders for my figure. (On skinny chicks it usually looks like their hiding something *cough cough shotgun weddings*) Was able to put some of it on credit, but paid most of it in cash, so it's almost already all taken care of.

The same day I bought the dress, Hobby Lobby was having a 50% off sale, on the whole damn store so I got almost everything I'm going to need. Flowers for the arch, crafty stuff to make the wreaths for the end of the chairs with, glass beads to use as table confetti, vellum paper to wrap around the tumblers I still need to order for the candles, and floral wire to keep it all together with. Febuary is ring buying month, and in March I have to make a deposit for the rentals. Now it's just a matter of getting it all together.

I had started to fret about the fact that I have finals the week before the week of the wedding, and literally AS I was starting to worry about it, Mom called to let me know she had taken TWO weeks off for the wedding so i could focus entirely on finals when I needed to.

I still need to print the invites, get table cloths and plan the food, but everything is coming together wonderfully.

The biggest thing I need to work out now is the honey moon. We booked it over the holidays, but got a message last week that it didn't go through for one reason or another. I'll have to remember to call Mom tonight about that.

I have been pleasantly surprised thus far.

Child Welfare services meets Wednesday nights at five o’clock for three hours. I wasn’t really looking forward to it for a couple of reasons. It’s in a huge class room, so I was expecting a lot of classmates, and power point type lectures. However, it’s a fairly small number of people, the teacher sits down in front of us, and we discuss things. Actually talk them out, and figure out problems, and break into groups to discuss cases, etc. I sit next to a couple of people who I already know I like. We have fun discussing problems, and the teacher explains how things would actually work out, after we give her our ideas, (especially when we have things we WANT to happen, vs how the legal system says they will actually have to happen.) :P

Something else about the class: I get to write a paper. Not a very big paper, just 5-7 pages long, on really any child welfare subject we wish. I was thinking of doing memory of child abuse (as a tie in to my degree) but we touched on teen mothers at the beginning of class, and I knew instantly what I was going to write about. I say I GET to write a paper, because I get to write a paper about Sexual Education and Abstinence only programs. I am going to have a field day with this. I have to find out if seven pages is the max….

Oh, and while we talk about the types of things children do, and understand, I get really excited that I know WHY they do those things, (like that the frontal lobe hasn’t fully developed at age five, making children take things what you say very literally). It makes me happy!

I am about to tell you guys my dirty little secret. I have a guilty pleasure, and it's celebrity gossip. I have no clue who alot of them are, nor have I really seen anything they're known for (especially musicians) but I love looking at the pictures, and ready the juicy tales. IDK, it's weird. So today, I was all excited to look at the best/worst dressed for golden globes. Now, I get all my "gossip" from OMG! Yahoo's celeb site. I think I'll have to look else where, because I now believe the people who are rating the stars "styles" are bat shit crazy.

CLASSES!

Kayoot!
Finally. Saturday evening, I finally paid off last semesters tuition bill, and got a head start on this semesters. I got my RAC number this afternoon, along with a copy of my senior check list, so I would know not only what my advisor said I should take, but what exactly I have to take in order to graduate. After this semester, SIX classes. That's it. Just 18 hours. Ideally, I will take four classes this summer, then two in the fall. What I will probably wind up doing in the fall, is (and this part is for certain) getting a job in my field processing data, and take two more classes to put me at "full time" student status. I want to take an advanced computer class of some kind, or maybe even an intro to programming, but SOMETHING in the area of computers. I also want to take the Management class in Human Resources, in order to have a few options for after I get my degree.

This semester is looking pretty sweet, the only class I'm a little on edge about it Sensation and Perception because I've heard it's worse than Bio-Psych because of the way Dr Williams does his tests. Entirely in essay format. I always get worried about essay tests, but I almost always wind up doing fine anyway, because I never give myself enough credit for what I actually know about a subject.

On to the Schedule!

Monday (and Friday)
Intro To Archeology @ 10 w/ Janet Rafferty (i've worked in the field w/ her before, she's cool)

Marriage and Family @ 11 Perhaps a good class to take just before you get married?

Tuesdays and Thursdays

Sensation and Perception @ 9:30 Dr Williams. I know him, but have not had his class, will be interesting

Intro To Clinical Psychology @ 12:30 With a prof I've never heard of, and I've been in the department long enough to know most of them.

Wednesday
archeology
mar and fm
Careers in Psych @ 1 WOO a class with 150 Freshmen, one hour a week. Each week a different person in the department/related departments come and talk about what to do with our degrees.

Child Welfare Services @ 5 p.m. I have to have this class, this is the only time it's offered, and it's ONLY offered in the spring. *sigh* I had to re-arrange my work schedule because of it, and it means I now only have one evening off a week. I may have to cancel a D&D game now. *sad face*

I have a class with Paul. He had to fill up his schedule to full time in order to get fin aid, and I shouted out "take intro to Archeology at 10 MWF!!" So he did. I have a feeling I'll be sharing my notes MOST of the time....

ETA: Textbooks suck. 600$ and I still need one more.

Mark Keenum, the new MSU president and his wife came into the restaurant today with some regulars. They are extremely fun people, good laughs, nice people. They are really really young. Especially for a university president they have four year old triplets, and a two year old, and how do I know this? Because they mentioned looking for a babysitter! I gave them my number and they were very happy about it. Obviously I can't always be around, but possibly babysitting for the president of the University? Very cool y/y?

Blue Berry Zebra Pie

jesus called
My Mom's bad taste, let me show you it.

My mom bends over backwards for us at Christmas, and I could never thank her enough for it. Sometimes however, she just .... misses the mark. I got a lot of really thoughtful gifts this year, and I'm having a very pleasant time with the family, but two presents just... well, to be quite frank, they sucked.

The first is a shiny gold shirt. And I do mean shiny. I don't know how to describe the fabric exactly, but I'll give it a shot. It's what I refer as accordion fabric. Bazillions of teeny tiny rows, that fits your comfortably enough, but if you tug at it just a teeeeeensy bit, you could fit three full grown men inside. No matter what size it is. Gold, just isn't my color, and if it was, the potato sack that is pretending to be a shirt still wouldn't suit anyone's skin tone. Literally, it looks like some one sewed a pillow case, then decided to cut slits for arms and a head. I love you mom, but WHAT????

The shirt, however, holds nothing on the atrocity of a purse I received. It's a huge sack purse that looks like a belemic lion ate a Zebra, followed by a nice blue berry pie, then decided that was the absolute perfect time to purge. Seriously. It's hideous. And where a lion found blue berry pie on St. Patric's day I'll never know. (because that's the only way I can think of that there would be green cool whip on top, which is the only thing that would account for the odd green swirls on this purse). It's got a Dolce and Gabanna Logo on it, but for all I know it's a knock off, seeing as mom got it thru some one who knew some one.... I don't care if it's the real deal ( mom paid next to nothing for it, so I don't feel bad for saying this ) it's hideous.

Please, some one save my eyes.

In much more pleasant gift giving news, mom made out like a bandit. She usually gets the short end of the stick when it come to getting good presents, but some how, dad got a clue this year, and got her alot of thoughtful gifts for once. Things that were pretty and that she would like, rather than getting her the one thing she pointed out to him and that was it. Attl' do Daddy, Attl' do.

P.S. Honey glazed ham is the best holiday food ever, and if any one wants to argue with me, I have these cool pitch fork things you can poke in your eye.

On a much less stressful note, one thing that was important to me to have for the wedding was a signature frame, rather than book. Especially since it will be such a small wedding, I wanted to have something more personal, that we would be able to have around, and keep with us always, rather than something taking up space on a bookshelf some where. I was browsing around online, and Nick and I both have pretty much agreed that we will be getting this.

Fear the FLuff
So, I've entered the HOMGOSH I haven't finalized anything for the wedding yet, stage, and it's time to get kickin. My most immediate to do list, included finalizing time and date with Bro David, and with David and Heather.

I went out to Heather and David's on my own the other day, and came up with a ton of great ideas for places and decorations and little things, but there were too many options for me to actually decide on one. So Jean is going with me later this week (if it ever stops raining) to grant an outside opinion. You know, the opinion outside of "Wow, this is where I'll be getting married in four months, I don't give a flying fuck if it's in a mud hole!" (As a side note, I watched a wedding story where a couple got married at a demolition derby, and in all reality, NO i don't wish to get married in a mud hole, if I had mud up to my waist on my WHITE wedding dress, I would have cried. )

With the exception of having to put in a time, I've written up the wedding invites, and I think they suit us. I had been trying to figure out the right wording with parents and us and everyone, but then I realized that since Nick and I are footing the bill... pretty much entirely, we don't HAVE to mention our parents on the invites. I need to figure out exactly what I'm going to do with them, and I have gorgeous vellum, and elegant silver stickers to put on the border/ corners. I am thinking though, I might make home made recycled paper for the back drop. It would be pretty!

In January I have to buy my dress, and Febuary is ring buying month. Nick and I will be splitting the bill on everything else.

Oh, and I just bought pomegranates. I am happy!

For a long time, I have been slowly coming to understand what I believe in, what I want with my life, and how I want to get there. Growing up with a Hard Core Conservative father, it just seemed kind of obvious to me, that that's how it was supposed to be. Hate liberals no matter what. As I got older, I started to question what he was saying, and what Fox News had on (which I had no trouble seeing, it was on ALL the time in my home). I'd say by my senior year I was absolutely certain I wasn't a republican, but I didn't really know what I was.

As this election year began, I started looking at my beliefs and views, and deciding what was important to me. I tried watching the news, reading papers, checking online news sources (reliable ones) and the like. No matter where you go, which side you are on, there are always nay-sayers. There are always people who say, "Yes, he says that, but blah is how he really voted." or "So and so SUPPORTED this way back when."

I finally found a website that I'm able to actually go down the list of topics, and see how BOTH candidates stand on each issue. Not only what their current "view" and "plan" is, but how they have voted in the past. I opened a word document to write down further questions I had about things, like what is the "Make Work Pay" policy, or what is TORT reform. (I "learned" in high school, but I don't remember anything about it.) Compare the Candidates No B.S., no mud slinging, no slander, nothing but the facts, and where they both stand on many many issues.

Go, check it out. It's awesome.
